REVIEW + GIVEAWAY ~Dare to Desire by Carly Phillips~

Title: Dare to Desire
Author: Carly Phillips
Series: Dare to Love #2
Release Date: April 10, 2014

Rating: 5 Stars!
Quarterback Alex Dare, had it all -- an all-star football career with the Tampa Breakers and his choice of willing women -- until a severe injury forces him into early retirement. When he is offered a ground-breaking position with a rival team, he’s intrigued, but there’s a catch. He’ll be working alongside the same woman he hasn’t been able to get out of his head for too long.

Social worker Madison Evans grew up in foster homes and knows first hand what it means to have-not. She isn't impressed by Alex Dare’s wealth or charm. Not since she fell hard for him once before, only to discover she was just one of his too-easy conquests. This time around Madison refuses to succumb to Alex so easily.

But Alex wants Madison. And if there is one thing Alex does well, it’s to get what he wants. The playboy athlete must prove he’s got game in more places than on the field. He means to prove that he’s a changed man but no sooner does he begin to break through Madison’s defenses when a new opportunity comes knocking and threatens her new-found trust. Can he make Madison take a risk and dare to love?

Oh, Alex Dare, how I love thee. I LOVE (times a million) this super sexy series form Ms. Phillips. And the series just keeps getting better! So my thoughts on Alex: we never really saw him being a jerkface. It was alluded to and talked about briefly but, in the book itself he was a complete heartthrob. He brought his A game the whole time with Madison and definitely held more than a few swoon worthy moments. Now Madison, she makes my heart hurt for her. As strong as she is, you can tell Alex made a detrimental mark on her heart and now everything is snow piling up on her. I just wanted someone to take care of her. And that's when Alex comes in and saves the day... or at least tries to.

Madison has almost zero resolve when it comes to Alex. He may have broken her heart but, when he vows to make amends and get her back in his bed there is really nothing she can do about it. Correction: nothing she wants to do about it. When Madison and Alex are thrown together again in a new job they have no choice but to work together. Although, Alex sneaks some extracurriculars onto their to-do lists. Meanwhile, Madison is in a knock down drag-out fight with her foster brother over the care of her foster mother. The only person that every loved her and now Madison is in a losing battle. Alex is on a mission to turn that losing battle into a winning one and show Madison that her foster mother isn't the only one that loves her. Through the course of this story Madison and Alex engage in steaming hot sex, playful banter, and utterly adorable couple moments. Until, Madison throws on the breaks and throws up the wall around her heart once more. Leaving Alex a bit stunned and shell-shocked on the other side. In the midst of making a huge career decision for himself, he must also factor in Madison's new important role in his life. But that olive branch may be extended too late...

This book is amazing. Carly Phillips has once again captured my heart, my attention and a spot on my re-read shelf. Dare to Desire is a whole lot of yummy goodness mixed in with a well developed cast of characters and engaging story line. It's the perfect book for me to read on a Saturday afternoon when I need to decompress from the week. I think that Madison and Alex complimented each other perfectly. Although, they also made huge strides in their characters throughout the book but, it only brought them closer together in the end. Suffice it to say, I HIGHLY recommend this book, and its predecessor (Dare to Love). They are both magnificent books and Ms. Phillips has me hanging on a ledge to find out what will happen with Dylan and Olivia!!!

Happy Reading!

REVIEW ~The Day He Kissed Her by Juliana Stone~

Title: The Day He Kissed Her
Author: Juliana Stone
Series: Bad Boys of Crystal Lake #3
Release Date: April 1, 2014

My Rating: 5+ Stars
He can’t wait to leave…
Mac Draper finally has everything he’s always wanted: An amazing career. A New York City apartment. He’s this close to being free of his past forever. But a mind-blowing encounter with the sexy yet tough-as-nails Lily St. Clare has him delaying his plans to put Crystal Lake in his rearview mirror for good.

She’s finally found a place to stay…
For Lily St. Clare the charming small town of Crystal Lake is her haven – a place she can hide from her famous, back-stabbing family. It’s as close to happy as she’s ever been. Until an unforgettable night with tall, dark and tortured Mac Draper gives her a glimpse of what true happiness feels like.

Lily can’t help but melt a little under the sizzling heat of Mac’s touch. But Mac’s scars run deep, and Lily’s afraid she may be falling for the one man who can never return her feelings...

Oh my heavens! I LOVE this book! I'm reading along, and I like it and I'm engaged and then the second half of the book happens along and blew my freaking mind. Don't get me wrong, the entire book is magnificent. The second half just happens to pack the biggest punch. Emotionally, I was exhausted after reading this book. Mac and Lily obliterated my heart but, thankfully pieced it back together as well. I'm now going to have to take a good 24 hour break from reading just to decompress. I always have to be ahead of my reading schedule when I dip into a Juliana Stone book because she's always hits me with a massive book hangover. But, hey, you'll never hear me complaining :)

The Day He Kissed Her revolves around the third and final bad boy of Crystal Lake, Mackenzie Draper. Mac, as he is affectionately known, may be the most damaged out of the three. Well, their measures of damage can't really be compared, but his damaging factor, aka his father, is still around. Lily, bless her heart, is just the most stable, and supportive heroine I have ever read. Together the two of them make up a dysfunctional, and perfect puzzle. Lily had planned their chance meeting to stay a one-time deal. Fate had another plan in place. Through mutual friends and changed plans they meet once again. This time Mac isn't going to let her get away so fast. Although, part of me, thought he was just in it for the chase. I love it when I'm wrong about my cynical views. Mac is all in, granted he may not know it yet, but he is. Lily, try as she might to fight it, is equally deep into their relationship. While their relationship is rocking along just fine, Mac's tortured youth is always there to remind him he can't have the white picket fence and 2.5 kids. Lily would love to prove him wrong but, he's just not susceptible to the idea. Matters only turn worse when the source of his pain returns full force and solidifies Mac's doubt in himself to care and love for another person. And it just goes downhill from there. Because once Mac is already turning to run, Lily drops her own bomb that may ruin any chance of him ever warming up to the idea of loving and keeping her.

Before I get into all of my feelings, and sappy emotions, let's touch on the one thing all of us romance junkies want to know about: the sex. I will tell you this- for as much as Lily and Mac are emotionally drawn to each other their physical connection is as equally gratifying and amazing. I have to say, this felt much sexier than Juliana's previous books, in my opinion. Mac just cannot get enough of Lily and they are so incredibly, sickeningly adorable together. Gah! Love it! Resume sappy, emotional talk- Through one of the toughest heartbreaks, Lily remains calm and collected. But she says her piece. Which I love. I never felt like she should have said more of stood up for herself more. She was a picture perfect arguer and lover. Mac on the other hand was the complete opposite. The best way to describe it is, Lily she is Mac's gravity. She reigns him in and holds him down. While he may try to fight it, he's just not able to. This book made my heart do that tight, palpitation thing. It literally made me ache. No joke, in a matter of about 80 pages I felt the widest array of emotions. What I have to appreciate about Ms. Stone's books is that they aren't the screwy, dark emotions though. It may have a dark tinge to it, but for the most part it's a contemporary romance book with a more than average emotional aspect to it. It's just those couple of pages where Ms. Stone let's her evil twin out to twist and stomp your heart a few times. Overall, I'm really at a loss. I wish emotions could speak for themselves through the internet because I'm not doing this book justice with my words. Just trust me when I say to go grab this book. It's quite fantastic.

Happy Reading!

RELEASE BLITZ + EXCERPT ~Dare to Desire by Carly Phillips~

Title: Dare to Desire

Not since she fell hard for him once before, only to discover she was just one of his too-easy conquests. This time around Madison refuses to succumb to Alex so easily.

But Alex wants Madison. And if there is one thing Alex does well, it’s to get what he wants. The playboy athlete must prove he’s got game in more places than on the field. He means to prove that he’s a changed man but no sooner does he begin to break through Madison’s defenses when a new opportunity comes knocking and threatens her new-found trust. Can he make Madison take a risk and dare to love?
Without replying, Ian opened the door. They stepped into the room, and Alex laid eyes on the one woman he hadn’t been expecting to see. The same woman who’d haunted his dreams and sidetracked him from many of his nightmares.

Madison faced him head on. Her shoulders drawn back, golden-blonde hair pulled away from her face, she didn’t back down from his stare. She wore a pair of black slacks that hugged her curves and a white silky-looking top that clung to her generous breasts. And those unusually blue eyes frosted over at the sight of him.

“Alex, I believe you know Madison Evans.”

Blindsided — and his half brother knew it — Alex strode up to her. He inhaled her familiar fruity scent, which only served as a reminder of the hot times he’d spent breathing her in as his cock moved inside her body. Her effect on him was potent, and even the most common expressions failed him.

“Alex,” she said, her cool tone bringing his head out of the desire-filled fog he’d found himself in.

“Hey, Angel,” he said, using the endearment he’d started calling her during their brief time together. Another sign he’d had it bad, whether he’d wanted to admit it or not.

Her head whipped up, her eyes narrowing and settling on Ian. “This won’t work.” She turned to go.

Alex still had excellent reflexes, and he grabbed her arm before she could stride past him.

She glared.

He didn’t look away, determined to win this battle of wills. This potential job, which had interested him on an intellectual and emotional level initially, suddenly felt even more important, and she was the reason.

“We need to talk,” he insisted.

“I have nothing to say.”

“Ian’s proposition said otherwise.”

Madison looked over his shoulder in search of Ian and frowned. “Well, the traitor is gone. No big surprise there.”

Smart man, Alex thought. “If I let you go, will you stay long enough to discuss this position Ian and Riley want me to take?”

She let out a frustrated puff of air.

He took that as a yes and released her.

“Us working together is not a good idea, and somewhere in that thick head of yours, you know that.”

“Because we slept together? More than a couple of times?”

She set her jaw. “That was a mistake.”

Ouch. That hurt, he thought, and filed away the why to deal with later. “I want to know more about this training program and what my role in it would be.”

“Why? You can’t possibly be interested.”

“It sounds more like you don’t want me to be interested.”

She rolled her shoulders back even farther, stiffening her posture. “You’re right. I don’t. This is a serious project that could help a lot of people and have far-reaching positive repercussions for years to come. I need a partner willing to go all in. And let’s face it, I’ve seen your staying power. It’s nonexistent.”

REVIEW ~Three Weeks with a Bull Rider by Cat Johnson~

Title: Three Weeks with a Bull Rider
Author: Cat Johnson
Series: Oklahoma Nights #3
Release Date: March 25, 2014

My Rating: 4 Stars
One Broken Man…
Cowboy Jace Mills has suffered fewer injuries from bucking bulls than he has from his ex-girlfriend. Following his best friend Tucker’s advice, Jace is convinced it’s time to move on. But with his ex’s tight rein on him, easier said than done.

One Broken Heart…
Tara Jenkins learned a lot in her sports medicine courses, but not how to fix her broken heart. So when her brother Tucker suggests using her skills on the rodeo, it gives her the perfect opportunity to ride off into the sunset—or at least run away.

Three Weeks Together…
Only problem is, Jace and Tara have had a hate-hate relationship for over a decade, putting up with each other for Tucker’s sake. With their long history as frenemies, they know sparks will fly, they just never expect them to flare into scorching passion…

Three Weeks with a  Bull Rider was not what I expected. It was better. Ms. Johnson bleeds reality and fiction together for a wonderful story. Jace and Tara are enemies turned lovers but, more than that they healed each other in the process. What was once physical therapy to help them get over their respective heartbreaks turned into a deeper, and more seated relationship than either of them was ready for. This book was refreshing in so many ways- it was a nice break from the ever present angst in books lately, and it showed magnificent growth among the two main characters that was truly believable.

We pick up in the third installment after Logan and Emma's wedding with Tara's heart being shredded by Logan's rejection. I have to say, it kinda broke my heart that Tara and Logan were a no-go. Granted, I am a sap for the "I've been in love with him since I was too young, and he's my brother's best friend" line. Eventually, I came to grips. Eventually being when Jace and Tara started out on their three week rodeo circuit. In the beginning I didn't think I was going to be okay with this pairing. Jace seemed to be too much of a playboy and on the rebound from Jacqueline, and Tara seemed too childish. It was a complete turnaround by the end of the book. Jace begins to be the only person that doesn't treat Tara like a child, and therefore helps nix her childish ways. In exchange, Tara helps Jace work out and solidify his feelings toward Jacqueline. In the midst of their journey, Tara becomes resolute in one of her goals. To do away with her innocence completely. Jace, may have inadvertently signed up for the gig, but he vows to play by his strict rules. No sooner are they burning up the sheets, then they change course and part ways. Leaving unanswered questions, and mixed emotions behind, ones that they may never have the chance to straighten out... If it weren't for Jace's stubborn ways.

The entirety of this book was awesome from start to finish. The sex is hotter than hot, the chemistry is off the charts, and the hilarity is laugh-out-loud worthy. It was a complete package. There was one little piece missing though. As much as I loved what transpired between Jace and Tara, I wish Tucker had gotten a good tongue lashing from Tara. He was incredibly patronizing toward her. In the beginning, it may have been warranted but, at the end she deserved something more from him. Again, a very small and minor bug, inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but it's been nagging at me. Anyways, overall- two thumbs up! Jace and Tara are two characters that healed together, grew together and deserved nothing but the best, and in my opinion they got it. I can only hope, that I will see more after their "Happy For Now" ending in future books. I love to catch up with past characters, and I feel like they, and myself, could benefit from a snippet or two in the years after this book ends :)

Happy Reading!
