SERIES REVIEW + GIVEAWAY ~Inside Out series by Lisa Renee Jones~

Book #1
Title: If I Were You
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Inside Out #1
Release Date: September 13, 2013

My Rating: 5 Stars
When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.

Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca’s life. Soon she’s working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca’s friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she’s going down the same path Rebecca took. But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she’s not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.
If I Were You was an absolutely stunning introduction to both this series and the author. Lisa Renee Jones knows how to do many things right. At the top of that list is romance and suspense. This story jumps from wonderment, to anticipation, to incredulity. Sara is an intriguing character that reasons and reacts unlike most heroines. Mark is a strong, domineering, and elusive man. I definitely need to know more about him. Then there's Chris. Oh my dear Chris Merit. He's my favorite. He shares the elusive and domineering characteristics with Mark, but there's something more to him. I can't quite put my finger on it, but he keeps me hooked and coming back for more.

If I Were You is based around Sara finding Rebecca Mason's journal. Rebecca's life it too alluring to just let the niggling feeling she has go. Soon Sara immerses herself wholly in Rebecca's life. That life comes with the connection to Chris and Mark. As Sara sets out to find out what happened to the author of this very seductive and dangerous journal she may lose herself. One of these men she has encountered may be the man in this journal. The one Rebecca had changed herself for. It is a twisted road Sara has started on, but she refuses to give up. Who can she trust? Who is worth some doubt? And will she find the answers needs?

This book will keep you guessing through the very end. If you enjoy some of the best writing, a great story and captivating characters, this book is for you. I honestly cannot recommend it enough. I read it over a year ago and I'm still blown away by how much I enjoy it when I revisit those first pages of Chris, Sara and Mark's thrilling story.

Books #1.1-1.4
Title: Rebecca's Lost Journals
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Inside Out #1.1-1.4
Release Date: April 15, 2014

My Rating: 5 Stars

Rebecca Mason has known heartache and sorrow in her life, losing everyone she loves. She’s on her own in San Francisco, lost in every way, until she dares to make the decision to chase her dream of working in the art world. It is then that he meets a rich, seductively powerful man who will become the Master she never knew she wanted and change her life forever. He will lead her on a dark, passionate journey where pain is pleasure and pleasure is pain, and where every limit she once had is no more. In this man, she will find solace to her pain, an escape from the ache inside her. And in him, she will discover a darkness she may never escape.
I' so thrilled that the Inside Out novellas are finally all together and in PRINT! This bundle edition includes all four volumes of Rebecca's Lost Journals (not the ones from the full length novels) and as an added bonus, includes The Master Undone. You don't need to have read the series (but you should!) to read the journals. They are collectively a standalone. However, The Master Undone contains spoilers for If I Were You and Being Me, so keep that in mind.

If you're reading the journals after reading the full length novels you're in for a treat. The journals fed my obsession with finding out more about Rebecca, her master, and her life in general. The journals are set before If I Were You takes place and takes you down the rabbit hole that Rebecca got sucked into. Each of the journal entries gives you more to think about, a new possibility to consider and drags you deeper into the wild and seductive world of the Inside Out series. I honestly think the journals are a key element to the series. It gave me more insight into who Rebecca is and her life. It answers questions that have been nagging at me from the beginning of If I Were You. They are definitely a must read!

The Master Undone- well, I can't really review that without giving spoilers. Suffice it to say this lays the ground work for all that is forthcoming in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th books as well as the novellas coming out this year too. This is Rebecca's master's story. You'll get inside his head. But, with one major difference. This takes place well after the journals. There are several key things that have happened since Rebecca last put down her pen, and questions that have the readers burning for answers. So, The Master Undone puts those readers into a totally different element. The Master has a story of his own to tell and a journey of his own to finish. For some, this novella will clear up a lot of questions. For others, it will just spark more inquiries. No matter which group you fall into, if you've read the series this is an absolute MUST read! Yes, it is fantastic and wonderful. But there are a lot of logistics and hints given in this novella that you need to know going into the rest of the series.

Together this bundle is simply a crafty, seductive tale that sucked in me completely. Ms. Jones never disappoints with her engaging characters, and mysterious story lines. To me, this book is an epic addition to an already stunning series, and well worth the read.

Book #2
Title: Being Me
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Inside Out #2
Release Date: June 11, 2013

My Rating: 5 Stars
Fascinated by the dark fantasies in the journals she’s discovered, and the two men who have now found a place in her life, Sara McMillan finds herself torn between her new life and her past. Now, more than ever, Sara identifies with the lost journal writer, Rebecca, and is certain that something sinister has happened.

In the arms of the sexy, tormented artist Chris Merit, Sara seeks answers about Rebecca and ends up discovering things about herself she never knew existed. Chris forces Sara to reconsider who she is and what she truly wants from life, but not before his dark desires threaten to tear them apart. Her boss, Mark Compton, offers her the shelter to understand just what those needs mean to her, and what they might have meant to Rebecca, but can she trust him to lead her to a final conclusion to Rebecca’s story?
Oh my! This book left me reeling. Being Me deals with so many of the plot problems of this series. We find out what happened to Rebecca, who "Master" is, more hints about Chris' secret/past. What the reader does not find out is what happened to Ella, and the fate of Sara and Chris. Being Me had so many ups and downs, I felt the character growing one minute and then taking steps backwards. One thing I know for sure is that Ms. Jones has aptly named her novels. I felt that Sara started to make the distinction between her life and Rebecca's, and found herself, but Chris' reluctance to share any of his own demons squashed their growth as a couple. As much as I love Chris, there were several moments where I just wanted to smack him! I felt that he was controlling his universe at the expense of Sara. Yes, he supposedly just wanted to keep her safe, but by the end Sara was agreeing to some ludicrous demands from him. I actually finished this a couple days ago, but I was left with mixed feelings.

I then realized that, or I like to believe, that Sara was giving into his demands because she wants to make a new life, away from Rebecca's and away from her father and Michael. Sara finally comes to peace with the woman in the journal and is ready to start anew with Chris, but finds that even though she agrees to some of his demands, ultimately he is just trying to push her away. The turmoil for every character in the end about tore my heart out, I certainly did not see the plot twist coming when I began Being Me. I feel that the choice Sara is forced to make at the end is not whether she loves Chris or not, but if she can save him from his past the way he saved her from becoming Rebecca. Now, I may have this whole "in their heads" examination wrong, but that is one thing I love about Ms. Jones' writing is that she leaves a big part of her stories to the reader's interpretation. This is a fantastic addition to the Inside Out Series and I cannot wait to get my hands on Revealing Us! Stay tuned for my review on The Master Undone.

Book #3.5
Title: The Master Undone
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Inside Out #3.5
Release Date: August 12, 2013 (Is also be included in the print anthology of Rebecca's Lost Journals)

My Rating: 5 Stars
I told him goodbye, and I will not call him. I know if I do, it will be my undoing, and I'll once again be caught up in his spell. I will once again be...lost.

In her private journals, Rebecca laid bare her soul, revealing her obsession for the one man whose erotic demands captivated her imagination--and enslaved her forever. Now, with Rebecca no longer in his life he is lost, questioning everything he thought he knew about himself and about control he holds in such high regard. One women will reach out to heal him and then turn away, leaving him haunted. She is nothing he thought he wanted and somehow everything he needs. He tells himself to forget her but he cannot escape his desire for her. He has to have more..
AHHHH! Sorry, I just had to get that out :) Master Undone was my favorite of the novellas from the Inside Out series. "Master" Mark Compton finds his match. After Mark receives the shocking news about Rebecca he must jet off the New York to deal with a family matter. Mark blames himself for what happened to Rebecca and has no interest in redemption or the pity and condolences Chris and Sara lay upon him. He refuses to believe he is not to blame and is numb as he travels to be by his mother's side. Then he meets Crystal, and let me just say she is one of my favorite heroines I have read in a very long time. Of course, being a "Master" Mark takes no orders from anyone... except Crystal. She has this equally dominant, yet sweet, personality that completely befuddles Mark. He has never reacted like this to a woman before and as much as he tries to fight the pull, he cannot. This novella stepped up the Inside Out series, and I cannot wait to get a hold of the rest of Mark's story!

Book #3
Title: Revealing Us
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Inside Out #3
Release Date: September 10, 2013

My Rating: 5 Stars
The third installment in the sexy Inside Out erotic romance series—in the seductive tradition of Fifty Shades of Grey.

You've discovered Rebecca's secrets. You've discovered Sara's secrets. Now Sara will discover "his" deepest, darkest secrets...but will those secrets bind them together--or tear them apart?
*Spoilers if you have not read Being Me*
Many of you know I have been.. not so patiently awaiting the conclusion to the Inside Out Trilogy :) Well my anticipation was greatly rewarded. Revealing Us is everything I hoped it would be. We get our answers to some questions, and some circumstances create new unanswered questions. According to Lisa Renee Jones they will not be forever unanswered, she plans for a spin-off series *Happy Dance*. Back to Revealing Us, we left off with a huge cliffhanger for Chris and Sara in Being Me. He wants her to decide if she can handle the truth of his tortured past, and come to Paris with him. For Sara, Paris will be the final step for her and Chris, if they can make it through this they can face anything together, and it gives her an opportunity to find her best friend Ella.

"And everything else fades way but him, and everything in my world is right." ~Sara

With most series I am so excited to see what happens next, but with Revealing Us I was so immersed and enthralled with Chris and Sara that I lived completely in the moment. These two have come so far from who they were at the beginning of If I Were You. Sara is used to being an independent person, but with Chris' dominant personality she has learned when to push and when to retreat. Being back in Paris draws out insecurities in Chris that we don't normally see, while he isn't ready to divulge his secret to Sara yet there are people at every turn that could easily ruin the future he pictures for the two of them. I feel like tables turn in Revealing Us, Chris starts drawing the parallels between him and Sara and Mark and Rebecca. Whereas, Sara is more levelheaded about what she wants and steers their relationship for the most part. Sara actually becomes aware of the differences between and Chris and Mark and really comes into her own person where Rebecca's experiences aren't constantly hanging over her.

"Hungry for him, I want his passion, I want his pain. I want it all." ~Sara

Paris is a flood gate for Sara and Chris, he thought he was letting her in an inch and she ends up taking the whole damn mile. She understands him more than he understands himself and she tries to balance out the responsibility he has put upon himself. They came together as a broken couple; Sara, with her troublesome family/relationship history and upending her life when she delved too closely into Rebecca's and Chris with his dark soul. They had to overcome so many obstacles that other couples don't, and they finally understand that they needed to learn to heal together before they could thrive in their relationship. Paris definitely brings a multitude of suspense: Ella's disappearance, Chris' secret, Rebecca's death, and there are a few extra plot twists that will keep your mind reeling. And yes, for those wondering there are still journal entries and I was so grateful for them, at this point the Revealing Us would not have been complete without them :)

"If you were going to leave me alone, you should have walked away before now, when I still knew how to breathe without you." ~Sara

Revealing Us really gave me what I wanted as a reader. I got the thrill, the love, the suspense, and the hot connection between Sara and Chris. True to the series standard, I could not put this one down, there are no lulls and I read it all too quickly. If you pay attention to my ratings you'll notice that Revealing Us is the first for a 5+ rating. Yes, it was that good that I had to extend my rating system.

"And this, right now, is me savoring every second of making love to you. And in case you didn't know, you're the only reason I know what that means." ~Chris

Now for some author love. Lisa Renee Jones is such an incredible writer, the voice and passion she puts into her books is definitely felt by her readers. She isn't one of those authors that try to impress by overly embellishing their work, she has just the right amount of flair. She writes in a way that made me feel everything the characters felt and the maturity in her writing made Revealing Us more deep and raw. Revealing is just as captivating as the previous books in the Inside Out series, readers will not be disappointed. I for one cannot wait for certain story arcs to get their time in the spotlight :)

Book #3.1
Title: His Secrets
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Inside Out #3.1
Release Date: February 24, 2014

My Rating: 5 Stars
An Inside Out story, FINALLY - Chris's POV

In a world where my only escape has been my art, Sara has been the light in my darkness. And there is darkness, the kind of inky black that can bleed from my life to hers.

She doesn't see it. She doesn't understand what I've shown her. And my biggest fear is that soon...she will.
This is an absolute MUST READ! If you love the Inside Out Series, you have to read this book. His Secrets picks up right before Chris and Sara head back to San Francisco. There is some time spent at the country home in Paris in which Sara and Chris finally get to spend some much needed time alone. All too quickly though, we are back in the world in which Chris must battle his demons at every turn. This is not a novella just to tide us over until the next book. This novella, told from Chris' POV, holds many key elements that will be present throughout the remainder of the series.

"The two of us are all kinds of fucked up that somehow equals perfect."
~Chris

Chris and Sara continue to battle with Chris' past in His Secrets. They flip back and forth between what is good for them and what they need, crave and desire. Amber, Isabel and Tristan all play a pivotal role in this story. We delve deeper into problems between all of the characters and hit breaking points for a few of them as well. There were parts where I wanted to smack someone, hug someone and cry for someone. His secrets was one of those books that stayed with me even after I was finished. I kept thinking about the characters and how what happened was going to effect them in the future. In true Inside Out style His Secrets was just as haunting and captivating as its predecessors.

"Then I pull back, praying I didn't just kiss her goodbye."
~Chris

For such a short read, this book is equal parts poignant and heart-warming. His Secrets opens up so many more roads that this story line can travel. I saw Chris finally have a breakthrough in making peace with his past but, he and Sara still have a very long road ahead of them. I'm not sure who was fooling themselves in this book. Was Sara being too naive about Chris' past? Or was Chris underestimating Sara's ability to handle the screwed-up not so distant past he had lead? Either way I am counting the days until my questions are answered, and I get more of Sara and Chris! I do have to stress that this book is a very vital part of what is to come in the Inside Out Series. What happens in Paris will probably not stay in Paris... Or maybe it will. Who knows? Ms. Jones creates new turns and twists with every word she writes so, there is no guessing what is to come from this magnificent series.

Happy Reading!

Book #4
Title: No In Between
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Inside Out #4
Release Date: August 19, 2014

The fourth in the Inside Out erotic romance series by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, this steamy novel resolves Chris and Sarah's relationship and leads into Mark's story.
(Unedited) Another man in an expensive fitted suit much like Mark’s gray one, steps to Mark’s side, his features ruggedly male, whereas Mark’s are classical male beauty. And where Mark’s classically clean shaven and handsome, his short blond hair is always neatly groomed, this man’s thick, light brown hair is long enough to be tied at his nape, and the stubble on jawline far more than a shadow.

The man says something to Mark and I don’t know why, but I am certain the stranger is his attorney. Mark barely acknowledges what is said to him, stepping forward, closing the distance between us, and I cannot seem to move. He moves with absolute predatory grace, beautiful, powerful, impossible to ignore and I am his prey.

I am not immune to Mark’s certain flavor of power and masculinity, but then, I have never denied that fact. But being affected by his larger-than-life presence and wanting him are two different things. It's also a way Rebecca and I differed and I cannot help but remember her words. He was magnificent. Really, truly the most gorgeous man I’ve ever known. Instant lust exploded inside me. I wanted to feel him close to me, to feel him touch me. To touch him.

She’d started out infatuated and then fell in love, and suddenly, I am angry at Mark for not seeing what he had with her before he lost her. Even more so for trying to push her away by involving Ava and Ryan in their intimate moments, and who knew who else, that I never discovered.

Intending to tell him so, I step forward, closing the distance between us and stopping when we are toe to toe, but he speaks before I do. “Ms. McMillan,” he says in that low baritone of his that is both sultry suggestion and hard steel.

I lift my chin and meet his stare, and when I do, I see the barely masked heartache in the depths of those steely gray eyes. I see love lost, and my anger is ripped right out of my chest. “Mark,” I whisper, bleeding for him, with him. “It’s good to see you.” And without any conscious decision to do so, I wrap my arms around him and press my cheek to his chest. He doesn’t hug me back but I don’t care. It kills me to realize that Rebecca finally taught Mark what it is to love, and she’ll never even know.

“Ms. McMillan,” he warns tersely. “Now is not the time for affection.”

I step back, choosing to ignore the deep seductive quality of those words, and press my hands to my hips. “Why don’t you return your phone calls?”

His expression is unreadable, the pain I’d seen minutes before carefully banked. “I just arrived into town and I’m certain you’re aware, I’ve had my hands full.”

The stranger joins us, his piercing blue eyes finding mine.

“This is “Tiger”,” Mark says without ever looking at the other man. “My attorney.”

“What is it with you men? You have a problem using a person’s real, God-given name?”

“Confirmation of what I suspected,” Tiger comments. “You have to be Sara. And it’s not my God-given name. It’s the one I earned and that means it’s the one I favor.”

Taking the bait, I ask, “And how exactly did you earn it?”

“I’ll rip your throat out if you cross my clients,” he replies, and I do not like the subtle threat in the words, be it real or imagined.

I narrow my eyes on Tiger. “You said ‘confirmation you’re Sara.’ What did that mean?”

Mark answers for Tiger. “I told him your propensity toward too much conversation.”

“Does he know your propensity toward arrogance?” I challenge.

“He does,” Mark confirms, without hesitation, a muscle flexing in his jaw.

I cringe at the realization that I’ve hit the nerve of self blame in Mark, a nerve I know has to be as raw and ripe as it gets. “I’m sorry,” I say quickly. “It slipped out. I was just doing that banter thing we do.”

He gives me on of those heavy lidded looks of his and says, “Not a problem, Ms. McMillan. I also warned Tiger that you tend toward being painfully honest.”

Now I’m the one with confirmation. I did hit a nerve. “I wasn’t trying to hurt you.”

“There’s nothing wrong with honesty,” Tiger comments.

I cut him an irritated look. “There is if it hurts someone.” I step closer to Mark. “Can we talk alone for a minute?”

“No private conversation,” Tiger replies, rejecting the idea.

I gape at Tiger. “You’re protecting Mark from me?”

“I’m protecting you both from prying eyes,” Tiger assures me, his tone all business. “Save the hugs and personal conversation for elsewhere.” He glances at his watch. “It’s 3:00. We need to get to our meeting room.”
