REVIEW ~In Your Corner by Sarah Castille~

Title: In Your Corner
Author: Sarah Castille
Series: Redemption #2
Release Date: July 1, 2014

My Rating: 5 Stars
"You have to go. I won't be able to control myself. I've wanted you so bad for so long and after I've been in the cage...I can't think straight." He gives a guttural groan and his fist clenches on my hip.

Primitive. Primal. His need speaks to me. I tighten my grip on his neck and rock up to kiss him. He takes over. His kiss is hard and demanding.

"Mine." His voice is raw, savage and for a moment I truly believe he may lose control.

He rules in the ring

Two years ago, Jake and Amanda were going hot and heavy. But when Jake wanted more, Amanda walked away. Jake immersed himself in mixed martial arts, living life on the edge. But that didn't dull the pain of Amanda's rejection-until a chance encounter throws them together.

A high-powered lawyer, Amanda was a no-strings-attached kind of girl. But two years after her breakup with Jake, she still hasn't found anyone who gets her heart pumping the way he did. And then he shows up in her boardroom, hot as sin and needing help...

But can he rule her heart?

Jake is darker, sexier, and impossible to resist. As their chemistry builds, Amanda's not sure if she can stay in control, or if she's finally willing to let him claim her body and soul.

I don't think I can fully explain how excited I was to read this book. I read and reviewed the first book in this series almost a year ago, and from the first few pages I way dying for Amanda and Jake's story. Little did I know it was going to be a long and torturous story. I was expecting a flashback prelude of a story, but no. Sarah Castille had to go break my heart in Against the Ropes and break them up. Flash forward to In Your Corner. These two have had their share of heartbreak. In part to their own destruction, and in part because of the life that has shaped them. Amanda is clearly a hot mess when it comes to her personal life, and Jake... well I'm not sure he knows what he wants, at first.

This is a push and pull battle of the sexes. Amanda has hit a personal rock bottom, and Jake is in a life that he wasn't meant to lead. They meet up again right before everything goes to hell in a hand basket. But now that Jake's back in her life, he won't let her flounder so easily. There's a lot of hurt to reconcile, and a lot of feelings that neither one of them want to divulge. In the end, they build off a friendship. Even when they're spitting mad, they're still there. Along the way they help each other find their true selves. Jake helps Amanda create a business and a future that she was always meant for, and Amanda helps Jake find his roots and gives him the confidence to go out fists swinging... literally. While, they make great friends, can Amanda move past her insecurities to trust that Jake will always be there? And can Jake fight long enough for Amanda's trust, or will he give up?

I loved this book. It's steamy, and alluring. And even though I didn't know it, it was exactly what I wanted from Amanda and Jake. They dealt with their past, dealt with their present. Kicked a** individually and as a couple. All around a very amazing read. I really and truly hope there is more coming from this series. I love me some MMA fighters and this cast of characters are a complete riot!

REVIEW + GIVEAWAY ~Tamed by Emma Chase~

Title: Tamed
Author: Emma Chase
Series: Tangled #3
Release Date: July 15, 2014

My Rating: 4 Stars
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: girl meets player, they fall in love, player changes his ways.

It’s a good story. But it’s not our story. Ours is a lot more colorful.

When I met Dee I knew right away that she was special. When she met me, she thought I was anything but special—I was exactly like every other guy who’d screwed her over and let her down. It took some time to convince her otherwise, but turns out I can make a convincing argument when sex is at stake.

You might know where this story’s headed. But the best part isn't where we ended up.

It’s how we got there.

TAMED goes back in time to the Tangled days. But this time around, it’s not Drew dishing out the advice and opinions—it’s his best friend Matthew, who of course is dealing with Dee Dee.

Emma Chase continues to write books that astound me. Her characters are hilarious and riveting. With Tamed, she returned back to her roots and wrote it in the male POV. Being inside Matthew's head was a lot like being in Drew's but I didn't want to throttle him as much :) Matthew is what I call good people. He fights and gives until he can't anymore. He's sexy as hell and funny to boot. Pair him along with a ballsy, yet romantically gun-shy woman and you've got an enthralling, lusty, and magnetic book.

Overview- Matthew is Drew's, from Tangled, best friend. The story of Tamed happens mostly parallel to Tangled's story line. We get a whole new view of what was happening across town. Which was Matthew falling head over heels and scaring the beejesus out of Dee. Yes, the same Dee who is Kate's best friend. So playboy turned devoted boyfriend, and genius, casual dater turned running for the hills. Matthew was attracted to Dee on the spot. Naturally he went after her. Being two attractive people, naturally she reciprocated, but called it quits after one night. Until Mr. Relentless came out to play. Matthew had a taste of heaven, he wasn't about to give it up. When Dee and Matthew decide to give their relationship a try, it's not an easy road. For as much of a calm and collected demeanor Dee shows on the outside, when someone gets too close she balks. And she continues to turn tail until Matthew's had enough. He'll either force her to reign her fears in, or give up the chance at a happily ever after.

This book was fantastic. It was a quick read for me. I completely devoured it. Emma Chase does the male POV unlike any other author I know. She's crass, honest, and intelligent all rolled into one nice Matthew package. I'm going to be honest, I liked Tamed a little bit more than Tangled. Only because Matthew wasn't nearly as douchey as Drew. Of course, Drew won me over eventually, but Matthew had me from the get-go and never lost my affection. Who he was when we met him and who he continued to be as part of a duo with Dee made this story for me. Dee gave me a couple of headaches, but she came through when it was pertinent. All in all this was a fantastic read and once I will definitely be adding to my physical copy bookshelf. And I will ABSOLUTELY be adding the next installment to this witty series to my TBR list!

Happy Reading!

EXCERPT TOUR + REVIEW + 2 GIVEAWAYS~Ricochet by Skye Jordan~

Title: Ricochet
Author: Skye Jordan
Series: Renegades #3
Release Date: July 14, 2014

My Rating: 5 STARS!!
After a tragic incident in Afghanistan leaves Master Sergeant Nathan Ryker the only man standing in his tight-knit team, he spirals into an alcohol-and-sex induced escape. A call from his lifelong buddy pulls Ryker from the shadows with a request for help with his stunt company’s latest blockbuster. If Ryker can survive the next three weeks of leave and get back to his remaining men, he might just be all right. But a sexy woman who can take his mind off his trauma is too hard to resist, and when he hooks up with Renegades’ sultry, snarky office manager, his sanity takes a backseat to his first glimpse of a future he isn’t sure he deserves.

Still reeling from a bitter romantic betrayal, Rachel Hart wants nothing more than an uncomplicated hookup. So when the mysterious Nathan seduces her with a little dirty talk and one delicious kiss, Rachel drowns all her good sense in a Mandarin and soda and gives herself over to a night of sexual bliss. But her memories tarnish in the morning light when Rachel discovers his real identity and his link to Renegades. Her job and her friends are the only thing holding her life together, and she won’t be ruined by one sultry night with this damaged and dangerously sexy man.
Ryker sipped his Rockstar, trying like hell to keep his mind in the moment. Seeing her again just made his thoughts travel backward to relive their night together moment by luscious, mind-blowing moment.

His gaze roamed over her again, over the simple white dress that framed her her narrow waist and the curve of her breasts. As a whole package, she was country-girl fresh and apple-pie sweet with a streak of Tonka-truck tough. Underneath, she hid a siren, a temptress, a woman who liked things edgy.

She fascinated him.

But he already missed the intimacy they’d developed last night. The easy way they’d talked and laughed together. The comfort of lying quietly while they caught their breath.

Yeah, he’d really fucked up good.

She returned to her desk, slid her glasses back on, and plucked a pencil from a Renegades coffee mug. Dragging a legal pad from beneath a stack of papers, she started writing. “Are you sure there’s no one but Josh?”

“I’m sure,” Jax said. “We could try another company, but I want to get Ryker past Precision. Cinematic prefers Precision.”

Rachel put two fingers against her temple with a sigh. “Everything needs to be seamless to make this work.”

Ryker’s brain slowly returned from a fantasy of Rachel on her knees, those librarian glasses still perched on her nose while she took his cock deep into her mouth. “Look, I’ll talk to you guys about anything you want. I’ll give advice. I’ll even hang around and watch, make sure everything is safe and kosher, but you sound like you’re—”

“Hear us out,” Troy said, annoyance clear in his voice. “I wouldn’t have brought you here if there wasn’t something in it for you.”

Reflexively, Ryker’s gaze darted back to Rachel. If she was the prize, he might reconsider…

“Not her.” Troy slapped Ryker on the back of the head. “Use that flabby muscle between your ears for a change.”

Ryker gritted his teeth and braced his forearms on his knees, glaring at Troy over his shoulder. “Do that again, and the gloves come off. And the brain is not a muscle, idiot. It’s an organ.”

“What-the-fuck-ever.”

“You should have told me what this was really about.”

“Gee,” Rachel said, “sounds like we’ve got a theme going.”

“Listen,” Jax said. “I’ll give you the scoop, you tell me if you’re interested. No pressure.”

“Criminy,” Rachel muttered, covering her eyes. “No. No pressure.”

Ryker didn’t understand where her pressure was coming from, but 50 percent of his was sitting beside him on the couch. Another 50 percent came from his desire to get closer to Rachel.

Okay, more like 10-90.

“Go,” he said, inviting Jax to talk with an open gesture.

“We’re finishing up the next Bond film, and the last scene—” Jax started.

“Bond?” he said. “As in—”

“James Bond,” everyone in the room said in unison. The question had obviously been asked before.

“Okay.” He shrugged. “Go on.”

“The last scene with big stunt work is the climax,” Jax said. “The script calls for a car racing across a bridge with Apache choppers in chase, Hellfire missiles raining down. Normally, we’d do all the explosives with computer graphics, but we’re under a really tight budget, and, I know it sounds crazy, but blowing up a real bridge is way less expensive.”

At some point during that explanation, Ryker’s jaw unhinged and his mouth hung open, his mind trying—and failing—to envision how anyone could possibly pull off the stunt they’d described.

“What we need is an explosives expert who can take down the bridge in the most cinematically dramatic way possible, while maintaining a safe environment for crew and location.”

“Wait…” Ryker glanced at each face and found Rachel tracing the eraser of her pencil over the wood-grain pattern on her desk. Then he met Jax’s gaze again. “This doesn’t sound like consulting.”

“It was when Troy first called you, but as I told Rachel, we just lost our blaster. We’d like you to take the lead on this. So.” Jax stretched out his legs and dropped one ankle over the other, just kicking back as if what he’d proposed was as simple as the rock climbing he’d been doing earlier. “What do you think?”

An absurd scrap of laughter huffed out of his mouth. “I think you’re all certifiably in-fucking-sane.”

Let's think back to my reviews of the previous Renegades novels... remember how I waxed poetic and I was all around thoroughly obnoxious about my love for them? Sad to say, that this review will be no different. In fact, I may just get a little sappy and a whole more obnoxious. This series keeps getting better and better. The emotions are heightened, the connections get deeper and the sex gets dirtier. And I fall a little bit more in love with each of the Renegades every time they open their smart mouths.

Ricochet centers around a brand new hero, in every sense of the word, Master Sergeant Nathan Ryker. He's back from overseas and in a bad way. Then he happens upon a hot little number while stranded at the airport. Said hot little number is none other than the Renegades' glue of their operations Rachel. She has been such a pistol all throughout the series and I'm so glad I was able to read her book. So they meet, identities were hidden, truths weren't divulged and the sex was had all over a hotel room. Yes, Ms. Jordan you have my full attention, continue. Of course, Rachel being the put together woman that she is has never indulged in this manner before an escapes before the awkward morning after can come to play. She chalks it up to a drunken endeavor and moves on. Until said sexy one-night stand shows up to do his buddy a favor. A buddy that just so happens to be Rachel's co-worker and best friend. Long, and fabulous story short, Nathan and Rachel are thrown together in the closest of quarters until their pasts come back to haunt them.

It's a game of ping pong with their relationship- it's just sex, it's more, it's ruined, etc. I just want them to be happy! But, Ms. Jordan makes you work for it. Rachel and Nathan are so good together and they can't even see it. They have preconceived notions about their lives at the moment and the other was not in their plans. Yet as their demons haunt them separately, they force them together. They find a comfort in one another that they've never been able to find anywhere else. It's funny, with this series I can't see the end coming. The author fully submerges me in the story and I refuse to poke my head out until I'm finished. Suffice it to say, Rachel and Nathan held my attention in lock position from beginning to end. Their emotions gutted me, their connection was envious, and their humor blended in perfectly. Ricochet delivered on the emotional turmoil without putting me in a deep dark hole, which I appreciate so much. I love a book that can weave the light and dark together so effortlessly. Not just with the story line, but with the characters too. Nathan would have his moments of hilarity and "aww"s among his moments of sadness and fear. While Rachel would have her sweet and endearing moments amidst moments of anger and disappointment. And when they would come together it was one big mindf--k but it was well worth it. I say this every time I read a book in the Renegades series, but I don't know how a series can get better than this. It truly felt like a breath of fresh air while I was reading it. It's new and exciting and a whole lot of sexy. Simply, all around wonderful. I HIGHLY recommend!!

Happy Reading!

RELEASE DAY REVIEW ~Dare to Surrender by Carly Phillips~

Title: Dare to Surrender
Author: Carly Phillips
Series: Dare to Love #3
Release Date: July 15, 2014

My Rating: 5 Stars!!
After ending a relationship to a cheating, domineering man, Isabelle Masters takes off in her leased Mercedes, only to be arrested for grand theft and hauled to a local police station. To her surprise, she is rescued by the most unlikely person possible, Gabriel Dare, a man she’s been attracted to for far too long. Gabe offers Isabelle freedom along with an invitation to Eden, an exclusive island resort where everything and anything is possible.

Although Gabe yearns to possess Isabelle, he knows all too well he must fight his primitive need to bind her to him, and instead help bring out the independent woman she yearns to become – or risk losing her for good.

A woman who needs to run her own life. A man who needs to exert control. Can she surrender to his erotic demands without losing her sense of self once more?
Gabe silently thanked God his houseguest escaped into the shower as soon as she possibly could. The tour of the house had just about done him in. Isabelle’s oohs and aahs had been genuine, as had her love of his favorite room in the place. Unlike Naomi, who had taken one look at his apartment and immediately begun calculating how she could move in permanently, Isabelle, who he had invited, not only wanted to pay her way but she planned to leave as soon as possible.

Not if he had his way.

Back at the police station, outside in the rain, it’d been all he could do not to reach out and swipe his hands over her responsive nipples, feel her tremble beneath his touch, and get rid of the ridiculous distance between them. He might not know her well, but he’d always felt they’d connected. The physical attraction was obvious. She was all woman, supple curves, her breasts full and lush, and she possessed one hell of an ass. His cock twitched with the desire he’d felt from the moment he’d first seen her on Daltry’s arm.

But things ran deeper. They’d shared banter and flirting during opportune moments when he’d caught her alone. He’d had glimpses of the intelligent, witty woman she was when not with that pompous ass. But not until today had he really seen beyond the exterior beauty to the depth beneath. Those sexy blonde curls that bounced wildly around her face were a proud testament to the fiercely independent woman she desperately wanted to be.

The woman he intended to help her find.

It wouldn’t be easy. Isabelle needed gentling. Understanding. Patience. Not his best traits, but when it came to her, he’d already exercised plenty. He’d bided his time, knowing Daltry would fuck up sooner or later. The balls that made him a crack financial investor also imbued an arrogance that would be his downfall. And it had been.

It was Gabe’s good fortune that Daltry’s screw-up had landed Isabelle at his brother’s police station. Seeing her there had given him insight he wouldn’t have had otherwise. In Isabelle, he saw an intriguing combination of weary life experience and innocent ingenue. It was the innocence the most primitive part of him wanted to conquer, to possess. Since he'd begun running his father's empire at the age of twenty-one, the same age he'd been drafted into surrogate parenthood to his sister, he had always gotten what he wanted.

And Gabe wanted Isabelle.

So let's get this part out of the way.. the ONLY thing I did not like about this book was it's length. I wanted more Gabe and Isabelle! They are such a powerhouse couple. I could feel their emotions and connection pouring off the pages. Dare to Surrender is a book I like to categorize as sexy goodness. The heat level is up there, and the book in its entirety is just amazing. In true Dare to Love fashion, this addition to the series gave me another reason to continue reading this steamy saga.

Ms. Phillips continues to impress me with this series. I've been a reader of her's for several years, and have read almost her entire catalog of works. To me, the Dare to Love series brings her writing to another level. I devoured this book in all of one Saturday afternoon. I don't know how to describe what this book made me feel- I wanted more, but I was also completely content with the ending. Does that make sense? I loved it so much I wanted more. I know, I'm being greedy. I just loved it SO much!

So what exactly did I love about it? For one, the strength both characters showed. Gabe in his ability to let Isabelle go when she needed space. And Isabelle being able to swallow her doubt and take her first step back to land of the living . Secondly, their development throughout the book. They've book been hurt in the past and they're gun shy about relationships. From beginning to end the transformation I saw in Gabe and Isabelle made my heart melt. Last, but certainly not least, their complete acceptance for each other. Despite their misgivings, the didn't run from the love they felt. They realized it was a love worth pursuing and made it work. All in all, this book was fantastic. The seduction, the love, the laughter. Gave me the warm fuzzies! I simply cannot wait for the next book in the series :)

Happy Reading!
