Aly Martinez just loooooves to stomp all over my reader heart. THRIVE is a deliciously, angsty read that just about put me in a perpetual book funk. Jeremy and Mira got the shortest end of the short sticks. Whether is be their youth, their inexperience or their desperate need to be loved that got them to where they are mistakes were made. Mistakes that stole years of their lives. But for Jeremy it gave him the family he really never had, but it wasn't meant to last. Whereas for Mira, it gave her hell on earth.
But years later when that hell on earth comes to her doorstep, threatening her life Mira only has one place to look. To the man whose heart she broke by not choosing him so many years ago. Jeremy has no reason to even entertain a conversation with Mira. Well no reason except for the fact that she is still his heart and soul. It may still kill him a little inside that she didn't choose him, but when the truths come out, and they can both see it from the others' perspective things change. These two don't shy away from the confrontation, which I loved. They didn't pull punches, they just came out fists swinging at each others' hearts.
What was once there, still is, maybe even stronger now for them. Mira and Jeremy just had to find the right time and place for their love. It wasn't 17 years ago. It wasn't when they were still kids living and breathing vendettas and stolen moments. It's now, when they can finally heal each other. I will say this as much as I love Jeremy and Mira's story, Ms. Martinez has created a monster with greedy hands in this reader who is dying for Whitney and Braydon's story. I NEED IT! Back to THRIVE though, this book was everything I expected it to be and nothing I expected it to be at the same time. It's thrilling, it's over-the-top (in the best way) emotional, it's raw, and it's real when it comes to Jeremy and Mira's love for one another. But their story is anything but easy from those wasted years ago to now, it's a seemingly impossible hurdle after hurdle, but you'll have to tune in yourself to see how they handle it. This is hands-down a must-read for me.
