Author: Carly Phillips
Series: Dare to Love #1
Release Date: November 17, 2013
My Rating: 5 Stars
Since finding out his father had another family on the side, Ian Dare swore to be the upstanding, responsible man his cheating parent had never been. When it comes to his relatives, he gives his all but in relationships he offers the bare minimum. But one glimpse of sensual Riley Taylor arouses his dominant and protective instincts and Ian is entranced. He will do anything to possess her ... and does. But any future with Riley must include him extending an olive branch to the half-brother who is a constant reminder of the pain he'd rather forget.
Independent and always in control, Riley Taylor makes no apologies for choosing men carefully. Relationships have never been a priority and she believes herself hardened to domineering men - until she meets charismatic Ian Dare. He manages to turn a simple kiss into an all out assault on her senses and when he takes control in the bedroom, she's stunned to discover she likes it. As their affair heats up, they soon realize they complete each other in ways neither imagined. But Riley's past is closer than she cares to remember, and her struggles with Ian's dominance might just cost her everything.
"She reached out a hesitant hand, placing her palm over his heart. In that instant, he accepted that she owned him."
What starts out as a helping hand quickly turns into a sinful, heated tryst between Ian and Riley. And there are surprises behind each door for the couple. They deal with more than a normal couple does in the typical getting to know you stage. And those twists and turns will test the strength of their relationship like nothing else can. I will say this, Dare to Love is, in my opinion, the steamiest novel Carly Phillips has ever written. She delves deeper into Ian and Riley's relationship. From their trust issues, to their demand for more than just vanilla sex. I don't know how to explain it other than, everything you would want to see in a book with this synopsis, you get it. There are plenty of family moments, funny moments, serious moments, sexy moments. It was basically my recipe for a perfect book. Riley and Ian are both characters that I could relate to and empathize with but, also presented the complexity that I love my characters to have. These two had to work for their relationship. It didn't come easy, there were many obstacles along the way but that's what made this book utterly captivating.
"You either trust me or you don't. You either instinctively come to me first or there is no us. On that, I can't compromise."
~Ian
I was absolutely blown away by Dare to Love. Once again, Ms. Phillips has completely outdone herself.
Truthfully, I don't see how any of the other siblings can top Ian and Riley's book but, I hope and look forward to being wrong :) I promise you, you won't regret picking up this book. And it will definitely be making my 2013 favorites list at the end of the year. So, stop reading me blather on about how fantastic it is and go get a copy for yourself! Also Ms. Phillips was kind enough to answer one of my favorite questions to ask authors-
